New Projects
I have a really fun project for three or four people to do. You will create a fill-in-the-blank section of the elementary yearbook. More details today.
Jump Starts were due yesterday. Please get them in if you haven't done it yet. Now turn those ideas into a cut-out and data box at the bottom of your page. I will show an example today.
Chaz/Cory- We are still working on the records of the varsity sport teams. Let's get those worked on today.
Amy/Ashley- I have a big project for you two today (and the rest of the week) with cameras. I will tell the whole class about it.
I also have some graphic design work (cut-outs and such).
Let's work hard today!

Feb Projects and Loose Ends
We are currently finishing up some pages, tying up loose ends and starting continuing current projects covering events going on now. The following items need to be addressed ASAP so we can stay on target.
1- There are a few cut-outs and blurs that were completed and never uploaded. Check to see if you have them:
Jakob Bartel (7)
The Industrial Tech Student Teacher
Tierney Blur I can't find it in the folders anywhere
2-Mallory/Tierney: We need to hunt down the photos from the Gov trip to DM. They should be uploaded ASAP.
3-I need either a marching band photo from the field or a dance team photo to go on the homecoming page so it makes more sense. If we can't locate any of these of our own, we may need to talk to Stacia or Amy McGriff to get some good ones.
Also Tanner wrestling from Stacia.
4-Gunnar: I believe you located some photos you took last semester from Home Ec. Can we get those uploaded please?
5- We need to focus on our ACADEMIC PAGES for a week. Shoot pictures, write-ups, content mods, etc. Some are nearly complete while others are bare.
Jump Start Worksheet due Monday.
6- We will need a point person to work up the Winter Sports week info with me. This will include some graphic design work (cut-outs, blurs, etc).
7-Mallory- START BANGING SENIORS FOR THEIR PORTRAITS and we need to start asking for a baby picture. That will take a while to get and we need time to scan them and safely return them to kids/parents.
8-We need a photo of the homecoming court from Jessica Gleason. I have seen it... she just needs to get it back to us.
9- Two people can tackle some sports details. This will include entering names, scores, etc in the sports section.
10- Tierney... The next two weeks you have two big projects; the fashion spread and the ELEMENTARY BOOK. All of our photos need to be placed on the elementary book by the first of March. So if we start placing them now, we can send people out to shoot things we need more of.
We will be dividing up and conquering this list and crossing things off as we go. If you have EXTRA time in this class, or in a study hall, please focus on number FIVE.
Extra Stuff-
We need a photo from Megan Watts for Student Of The Month. We also need a quote and/or motto from her.
We need to find the rest of the basketball team photos and get them on the Winter Sports Page. Also, we should leave a spot for the basketball cheerleaders photo.
We need to get a sign up for people to share their Winter Sports Week photos.
Also we need to plan a way to get people to buy their yearbooks.

CAPTION REFRESHER
1. Start with one sentence in PRESENT TENSE that tells the reader what is going on.
BEWARE OF THE PARTICIPLE PHRASE FRAGMENT!!!
wrong- Mr. Malone sitting at his desk.
correct- Mr. Malone sits at his desk.
2. Next add a sentence or two that ADD CONTEXT. THEY MUST BE IN PAST TENSE.
The reason for this is that the action in the photo has already become a thing of the past once your readers get their yearbook. You write about that action in the proper tense to maintain consistency.
3. Every caption should do a few key things:
- Describe the action taking place in the photo.
- Identify every person in the photo by name and grade, up to 5 people.
examples:
Tierney DeWitt (12) and Mallory DeJong (12).... or Senior girls Tierney DeWitt and Mallory DeJong...- Go beyond the photo by providing additional details about the event or program the photo highlights.
4. Use quotes whenever possible to add a personal element, it gets the reader into the story.
DO NOT MAKE UP YOUR QUOTES! Go ask the students in the photos what they were doing or feeling when the photo was taken. Ask what happened next.
Example of PROPER CAPTIONING
Mr. Malone sits at his desk during Geography class and quizzes the students on Central America. Malone, a favorite teacher of many students, brought in a morroca, a sombrero, and a blanket from his trip to Panama. "I like to let the kids touch a little bit of a foreign country," Malone says. "I'm just one awesome guy. That's why I got the Golden Apple."

Wednesday Jan 19th
Today we are going to break into some groups and tackle some big projects that we need to finish.
Amy and Ashley-
Make a questionnaire for the MANY student teachers we have in the building. Run the questions by me when you are done. Then go interview the teachers and take their photos.
History
Band
Shop
5th Grade
Mac and Kyle-
I have a jump drive with a folder called JanGame on it. In are are about 25 good photos from last night's double header with EV. Look through them and figure out which ones you will use to weave your narrative about the games.
There aren't just photos of the game but also of the cheerleaders, pep band, and rowdy crowd.
Think about how we read a comic book when you go to lay them out.
DeLaney and Mallory-
Sneak Peak Board
I printed off 4 completed (or NEARLY COMPLETED) spreads from the early section of the book. They are in the LRC printer.
Take them to the display case. Make a big display that says something like---
SNEAK PEAK AT THE 2011 YEARBOOK

50 dollars
Tierney- Fashion Spread
Start your planning for the fall Fashion Spread. Decide if you will follow trends, different fashion styles here at NM or some other idea.
Mallory- February Valentines Day Spread Planning
Time to start planning what you will cover and what it will look like. Consult last year for ideas.
Gunnar- Finish the desaturation from yesterday. I will help on the hose.
Cully- Take a camera to Home Ec and shoot some Jr. High Cooking class. Action shots and Reaction shots.
Ads Ads and MORE ADS
We are almost done with our sponsors ads. I need everyone else to take a company and knock out their ads. Get them OK'ed with me when done.
Who ever does Studio 22, please see me first.
