Semester Test Part 1

Day 1 will focus on graphic images.

Staff Members will receive an image from Mr. Bollman.  They will then get an assignment to either make a cut-out of the image or a Desaturation with a faded background.

Student will complete the image effect and upload it to the STAFF INBOX at yearbook avenue.

Mallory- You will get an assignment from me regarding photos from earlier in the year.    See me.

Wednesday= Field Trip for Mr. B

Hey class,

Today I am gone on a field trip.

You will need to work on the following projects today.

1st- In your groups, finish your CAPTION PROJECT from yesterday.  This should take about 15 minutes.  Do quality work because we will select the best captions for the yearbook.

2nd- work on your ongoing projects (see yesterday's post if you forgot your job).

3rd- We will meet back as a whole group to discuss a writing prompt project at 3:00.  This will be an individual assignment.

The written project will be due at the start of class tomorrow.

Today's Assignment

Tierney and Mallory-  Print a sample of your cover and look it over.   Show it to me and we will check that off our list.


Then sketch out class photo pages.


Mack- We need to print a list of the major sponsors.  Then you and Mallory get a great job.  Get details in class.


Everyone Else- We will be working on their Quick Reads or their Academic Pages.

We will have a group ACTIVITY at 3:05.  Be ready.

Layout and Quick Reads

Hey Class!!!!

Work on your own the next three days. Complete your quick reads and your Autobiography Layout.

Layout Project.

Write one paragraph (or more) about who you are.  Set it in on the side of your practice page.

Add your dominant photo.

Quick Reads-  Get  your photo requests to Gunnar or Amy ASAP.  

These should be done by Monday.


Also:  Elementary photos today for Gunnar, Amy and Mallory.

TOO MUCH TUESDAY

Today we will discuss Design and Layout.

Start by looking through the past two yearbooks and the layout gallery on Yearbook Avenue.

I will speak today about LAYOUT and show a powerpoint.

We will discuss how to mock up designs.

Then you will have a little ASSIGNMENT.

IF you never finished your ROUGH DRAFT of your QUICK READ, DO SO!

Monday Nov 22 Quick Read Sharing

Reminder that quick reads should be completed on practice pages today.  We will start by sharing them.

Then we will draw for Academic Pages.

Finally, you can revise your quick reads as needed.

Also-- if you signed up to photograph elementary kids, I'd like you to make a visit through the elementary with a camera before Thanksgiving break.  We will discuss how to shoot kids today as well.

Quick Reads

You should have your data entered into a Google Doc at the start of class today.   

If you are doing a chart with percents (I know Mike is doing this with the super power thing) you will work with Mr. Bollman to make the percents work out.

If you have a list of a whole bunch of random responses, partner up and go through them.  Work on picking the best 5-10 answers.  Tierney and I can add input as well.  

Lastly, we will have a project the last ten minutes of class.  We will review affective captioning.

Mack- Can you contact Campion Sign today and confirm they got our info for the banner?  And see when we can pick it up?

Tierney- circle the quick read you want each person to work on.  Then we will meet with Bob about the cover design.

Mallory- Meet with me about photos.

Mike and Cully- Create a wanted poster- "WANTED:  Your photos for the YEARBOOK"
Create tear-off tabs with our new email address on it.

Kaylee and Chaz- Create a poster- "GET SPOOKY!  Send us your HAUNTED HALLWAY AND HALLOWEEN DANCE PHOTOS

DeLaney and Justin- Work on the September spread (all about football games).  Write and rewrite the COPY.  Wrap it up, and put a bow on it.

Computer Games at School

Computer Games at School 
Students should NOT be playing games on the computer during the school day. If all your work is complete, game playing will be allowed the last 10 minutes of a study hall period. The MRC computers cannot be used for computer games at anytime during the school day because of students taking college online courses. Student's who are playing games on the computer that are NOT instructor approved and/or are before the last 10 minutes of the class period will forfeit internet privilege for a 1 month period. If internet use is required for a class you may want to give serious thought to computer game playing before the acceptable time.

Hand in Halloween Question Worksheet to Mr. Bollman at the start of class.


I will give a quick talk about Tilts and then we will get assignments for the next week.  


Mack-  Make a list of the two top levels of sponsors.  Make it on a google doc and drop it in the shared folder.  We will need to add two businesses to the list.  Ask me in class which ones.


Tierney- Sort through the Halloween answers and pick the best (include a range of grades).  
Plan a content module using inspiration from a print source.  Build the layout online.  We will show the rest of the class this project on Thursday. 


Mallory- Sorting and uploading photos.  You will also work with some people on their projects.


DeLaney- Finish looking over items in the Yearbook Drop Folder on Google Docs and then meet with me so we can talk about your status.


Justin- You and I need to get together and set up your accounts.  

Nov. 1st

We will have  a powerpoint slideshow and discuss CONTENT MODULES AND DESIGN today in class.

How To Create a TILT

Tilts are when a photo leans just a little bit.  This effect is often used in contemporary design.

How to make a TILT

Step 1:  Open photo in Photoshop

Step 2:  On the LAYERS MENU, double click on 'background layer' so that it becomes "layer 0"

Step 3:  IMAGE> ROTATE CANVAS> ARBITRARY> 5 degrees CW or CCW (depending on which way you want it to tilt)

Step 4:  Save As>   Add the word "tilt" to the title

FORMAT: TIFF

Make sure you select  "SAVE TRANSPARENCY" in the format options.

Staffers are finishing up writing stories for the yearbook.  The topics were assigned on Tuesday and Wednesday.  

Keep working on your projects in GOOGLE DOCS.

First drafts are to be sent to DeLaney DeJong, the copy editor, for revision.  

Finished stories are dropped in the YEARBOOK 2011 folder on GOOGLE DOCS.  

Mallory DeJong is the photo editor.  She should be selecting photos, printing them off, working with writers, getting them the information they need to complete the story.

Tierney DeWitt is the Editor and Chief.  She is working on her own project, but should also check in with everyone and give hints, suggestions, helpful revisions, etc.  She can answer any questions and give Mallory guidance as well.

Mack is the Business Manager.  She is working on invoices and receipts from ad sales.  

DeLaney should float around and help people with their stories.  She can also help Mallory with photo choices.
